mTLD Conference Call

(August 28, 2009)

Yesterday, representatives from mTLD, (the .mobi registry) held a conference call speaking directly to .mobi domain owners. Like or dislike .mobi, I gotta ask, when have you ever heard of a TLD registry actually meeting directly with it's registrants to discuss the direction of it's channel? Umm.. can anyone say never. In case you were not able to tune in to this unique event, I went ahead and archived it here for your immediate listening pleasure. The audio recording is not the best in the world but it gets the job done. Dotmobi is setting the stage for the imminent expansion of The Mobile Web. CEO, Trey Harvin is a proven leader in the Internet Technology space and he has absolute confidence in the global adoption of the .mobi domain. In the conference call, Trey discusses mTLD's Corporate Priorities; Compliance...

Long Live ThePirateBay!!!

(August 25, 2009)

For those of you who are still living under a rock and don't know, there was another pathetic attempt to kill the unkillable. The real thieves of The World, who are trying to strong arm their archaic dinosauresqe fantasy agendas over the free people of The Earth, have once again professed their stupidity for all the world to take note. IT WILL NOT BE STOPPED. AND IF YOU THINK IT SHOULD BE, YOU WILL QUICKLY FIND YOURSELF ON THE LOSING SIDE OF A DYING DEBATE. File sharing is here to stay and there is nothing any corporate legal team, nor idiotic recording artist is going to be able to do to prevent ITs immediate adoption. These little blows simply fuel the fire behind tech savvy web users and effectively bring file sharing more and more into the main stream's view....

1-800 Number Receives 1-877’s Traffic

(August 19, 2009)

I just listened to a report on NPR where a Clinton, Illinois florist named Judy Van Fossan, has been receiving hundreds of calls a day from people inquiring about the GM rebate program after the company began advertising a national toll-free cash-for-clunkers toll-free number that's nearly identical to the shop's toll-free number. The floral shop's number is: 1-800-CARS-654 GM is using: 1-877-CARS-654 The florist is required to pay a fee for each toll-free call that comes into the store and Van Fossan said she could be hit with a massive phone bill at the end of the month. This proves that people, by their very nature, are habitual creatures and still resort (possibly subconsciously or through motor memory) to what they are most familiar with doing. I think callers just assumed a company the size of GM or the government...

What Happened To Bido?

(August 19, 2009)

Is anyone else feeling something seriously lacking from Bido lately? With all of their new additions added in the past few weeks, this question may seem strange. But I'm really starting to wonder where Bido went? I thought this site was supposed to change the domain game? Unfortunately, it looks like the site is quickly begining to morph into yet another cluttered domain auction clearing house... Not to take anything away from all of the talented developers and graphic designers who have worked tirelessly day in and day out to get this [platform?] up and running. My hat is sincerely off to every single one of you. But what the hell Jarred and Sahar? Where did the magic feeling button go? When Bido first launched it really had a certain spirit about it. I could feel 'IT' when I logged...

Frank Schilling Said It Best – ‘Everybody Sells.’

(January 23, 2009)

The now notorious islander domainer Frank Schilling, left us with what now may be one of the most important posts ever written about the business of domaining. I won't go too much into what Frank said, but if you have some time and you haven't read his last post in a while, go check it out again. His words got me thinking harder about my domain portfolio a few months back and today I am proud to announce the launch of a new project of mine: PortfolioBlowout.com Yep, it's exactly what it sounds like. (I'm Selling.) I won't try to explain what it is, just click the graphic above and see for yourself. I may be crazy but I'm going with my gut again. And just like I said with all of the other projects that I've thrown out there...

A Public Response To John Motson

(January 5, 2009)

John, before this situation gets any uglier, I'd like to clarify my comment on PredictiveDomaining.com where I mentioned your e-book. I haven't read your e-book, so I was not in any way commenting on the content of your book. Rather, what I was commenting on was the way in which you went about trying to have other domainer's hustle it out to their readers and how you planned on using the e-mails they provided you to promote your now dismantled DomainingRevolution.com project. I got that e-mail about the 'off the record domaining project' and the supposed revolution that would generate 'huge publicity in the mainstream media' and 'once launched make a lot of money', I read it in it's entirety. It bled scam and spam to me, sorry... That's why I did not promote it here on DomainerDeveloper nor did...

REAL Sites = REAL People = REAL Traffic = REAL Change.

(January 5, 2009)

If you thought I was joking with my first post of 2009, then you guys obviously haven't really been reading anything I've written. Things are changing and you're either gonna stay sinking on this quick burning ship or you're gonna finally find your spine, take a big deep breath, and JUMP IN and start swimming. Your well thought out 'domain monetization' strategies aren't going to cut it this time around. Face it, traffic today is not falling for sites littered with text ads and spammy sales pitches. Just as the 'pop up' died, parked domain based advertising is heading to the slaughterhouse too. Actually, txt ads are really just moving over to the mobile web. The top mobile websites, 5 years from now will be the most actively used websites on the planet. But don't take my word for it....

MysteryDomainSCAM.com – Far From A Revolution

(January 2, 2009)

April 10th will be the day that the MysteryDomainAuction ENDS. It's only been half a day since it's launch but I think I understand exactly why John Motson (http://dnxpert.com) needs lots of TIME for his 'mystery' to unfold. In fact, MysteryDomainAuction.com is NOT even an auction at all. What it is though is a shady advertising model that needs at least 50 days to really work; ideally 100 days to sucker as many people as possible out of a few bucks. Pretty crafty. Really... I tried it out this morning to see what it was all about. Seemed simple enough. No sign up needed (Although he is collecting all of our e-mails) and not a lot of friction to participate. I Got in at 57cents (along with 3 other 'bidders' at 57 cents??) To say the least, I won't be...

2009 – The Year Domainers Grow A Spine

(January 1, 2009)

All I gotta say is be safe and watch your back. 2009 will no doubt be challenging and unlike any year before it. Keep making shit happen and do what you gotta do to keep your head above water. Nobody's gonna hand you a golden ticket. Stay creative and stay focused. By now developing your domains should be a no brainer. If you're cash strong be on the look out for last in a lifetime deals on quality domain names. People are folding their hand left and right. Days like these made Frank Schilling. (*Hint: dotmobi) If you got questions ask them. If you don't already have a blog start one. If you don't have a facebook account get one. If you haven't figured out why twitter matters follow me. If you know what you love to do GO DO...

End-Users Don’t Care Because THEY DON’T KNOW YOU.

(December 1, 2008)

The telephone is an amazing tool, but who wants to 'interrupt' anyone these days? Be honest, we live in an "ask permission first" world, and the last thing that people respond to are crafted messages from companies or people that they don't know. One would be wise to better utilize the many wonders of the social web to form meaningful relationships (or threads) between yourself and the people on your 'to contact' list. These "trust-lines" can assist in establishing authentic connections into the potential buyer's immediate attention realm. There's nothing like calling or e-mailing someone that you share acquaintances with. I'm certainly more apt to devote my attention to you if I know who you know, or if I'm following you on twitter. These are the areas I'm focusing on: 1. Cultivate social development. - This means connecting with end...
